The Final Showdown in the Sudden Attack Raptor Challenge Regional Tournament!
9 July 2010, Malaysia – A tense silence hangs in the air. Grim faces stare intently into computer screens as teams spread out in formation for a final push. Someone shouts a warning. The whole atmosphere explodes into a flurry of battle cries and commands as hands click furiously and fingers skitter across the keyboards, aiming surely and steadily, searching for the opponents.
This is one of the common scenes one experiences during the state championships of the Sudden Attack Raptor Challenge Regional Tournament, which were held during the recently concluded Asiasoft Games Festival 2010 in both Singapore and Malaysia. Many teams came together to pit their shooting skills against one another and ultimately win the war for their rightful place in the Top 15. The Top 15 teams are from Singapore, Malaysia with a few surprise entries from Thailand, a country known for their fierce and strong SA teams. Together they will converge at the World Cyber Games (“WCG”) Malaysia 2010 for the final showdown for over RM30,000 worth of cash and prizes.
The Sudden Attack Raptor Challenge, sponsored by Western Digital, is part of Asiasoft’s efforts to promote Sudden Attack and grow the professional gaming community.
“Asiasoft has always supported the professional gaming community by hosting major tournaments for our games. This time, we warmly welcome Western Digital who has made it possible for us to host the finals at WCG Malaysia,” says Mr Sean Foong, Product Manager of Asiasoft.
Ms Wong Yen Lin, Country Sales Manager for Western Digital, adds, “Western Digital has always been supportive and has actively participated in any activities to reach out to the gaming community. Through these interactions, we want to bring greater knowledge and awareness of our Caviar Black and VelociRaptor hard drive series. We want the gamers to understand the importance of selecting the right drives to maximize their gaming experience.”
It has been tough journey for the teams taking part as they battled it out to emerge as the top 15 qualifying teams. In Singapore, the qualifying tournament was extremely intense as it went into extended time before the top four could be determined. In Malaysia, the qualifying rounds were held in four states: Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Sabah over a span of two weekends in June. The level of play was extremely high as the teams gave their all to qualify for the limited places in the finals. Adding to the competition is the inclusion of teams from Thailand.
The battle will get even tougher as all 15 teams will also have to contend with a Wildcard Team on the day of the challenge, as the Wildcard Tournament gives all non-qualifying teams a last shot at competing at WCG. It’s anybody’s guess who the Wildcard team will be – it could prove to be a dark horse entering at the last minute or even a strong team that just missed out on obtaining a spot during the qualifiers.
So which team will emerge from this skirmish as the champion? There is only one way to find out – visit Booth 205 in Hall 2 at WCG Malaysia 2010 and catch a glimpse of the Sudden Attack elites live in action as they battle on for the top glory! Wild Card Qualifiers start at 10am on Friday while the Raptor Challenge officially starts at 10am on Saturday. The final battle will be played live on stage at 2.30pm on Sunday.
